Clinical Specialist Orthotist
Tom qualified from Salford University in 2003 with a 1st class honours degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics. An inquisitive mind and passion of physics and human movement meant that a profession soaked in biomechanics was perfect. Through his early years of employment his dedication was rewarded with fairly rapid clinical advancement and he was soon responsible for managing spinal clinic and developed a specialism in lower limb biomechanics, latterly managing a gait analysis facility. These experiences resulted in a role within an Orthopaedic triage team where he became one of the first Orthotists in the UK to gain referrer rights for medical imaging including X-ray, Ultrasound and MRI. Tom then went on to gain his MSc in Clinical Biomechanics from Staffordshire University.
Relocating to Lancashire 5 years ago, due to a growing family and the desire for an occasional baby sitter, he has never looked back. Whilst maintaining his interest in lower limb biomechanics the opportunity to work with new materials such as carbon fibre and a much more mixed and demanding case load brings new and refreshing challenges on a daily basis.
Away from work, he is a dedicated family man but does love to sneak in a bit of Golf or Wakeboarding if the opportunity arises. A sports fan and willing participant in any form, however snowboarding is his vice. When the cold weather arrives, he takes every opportunity, afforded by his very understanding wife, to travel home to Scotland, braving the elements to enjoy a day on the mountains.
